A lovely day off

30 Dec

This morning we met our friends Bob and Danita Gardner at the Sunrise Cafe for breakfast.  It is always good to see them and have a visit.

Tomorrow we are leaving for Walla Walla.  I have dismantled Hannah’s table for the trip over.  A couple years ago she bought a 1950’s style table at a consignment shop.  I also went shopping at a local restaurant supply store for a few more basics – jelly roll pans, cooling racks, tongs and a whisk.   We are getting her set up in the basement kitchen at Aunt Sara’s house so she can cook until her heart’s content.  The girl can cook!

I am going to spend the rest of the day cleaning, cooking and catching up on laundry.  I’m trying to think of something good to make for two of us for dinner.  I will look through my kitchen and see if anything inspires me.  So far it is looking like spinach quiche (I think Scott is comfortable enough to eat quiche), and hazelnut toffee.  Maybe some homemade bread as well.

Highlights of the day thus far – – no work, breakfast with friends, warm wood heat (wood stove upstairs, and the pellet stove downstairs), apron inspirations, time with Scott, and I found the ukulele so Ali can learn, Tonight, You Belong to Me ala “The Jerk” with Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters.  That is a lot and the day is still young!

Lowlight – – no kids here.

My Grandpa Hellberg died this day in 1974.
